About the Position:

As a member of the Electronics & Lethality Hardware leadership team. You will be leading a dynamic group of mechanical and electrical engineers responsible for the development and support of firepower hardware for ground vehicles. This area manager will lead the development of firepower hardware components covering the entire development life-cycle, from requirements development to design, to final testing and delivery of hardware products

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide leadership and technical direction required to design, develop, integrate and support ammo racks, trunnion bearings, turret rotors/extensions, gun/turret drives, race rings/locks, ammunition handling systems, and ammunition feed systems.
  • Integrate mortar/artillery weapons, smoke grenade launchers, gun mounts, APS, ATGM weapon systems, primary weapons systems, remote weapons stations, crew serviced and coaxial weapons, directed energy weapons, UAV/anti-UAV weapons, and non-lethal weapons.
  • Manage transition to electrification of traditionally mechanical or hydraulic firepower components.
  • Manage turret integration lab and lab assets. Design and build test resources. Provide laboratory facilities, test resources, and engineering technical expertise for the engineering design, development, integration and validation of turret weapon station technologies. Enable troubleshooting of issues from the field, software verification, fit checks, training, functional checkout, and sight validation.
  • Manage area to ensure work is performed on time with high quality and within budget.
  • Coordinate with program/project/IPT leadership to assign tasks within area to accomplish program/project/IPT objectives.
  • Manage manpower needs, tools and training requirements.
  • Meet and execute staffing requirements - review manpower demand files to ensure accuracy and staffing commitments, taking action where appropriate.
  • Hire, train, and mentor employees to establish the technical competency and domain expertise required to successfully execute project responsibilities.
  • Provide clear direction to area personnel.
  • Provide area personnel with necessary communications for them to meet and be aware of any organizational, company, and project needs.
  • Lead area efforts in the identification of systemic issues that result in design errors and development of the plans to correct those systemic issues.
  • Seek and identify continuous improvement opportunities to processes and foster employee empowerment.
  • Evaluate and report on employee performance.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to area employees by fostering a growth and improvement working atmosphere.
  • Support program leads in achieving team commitments.
  • Develop and track area and department metrics.
  • Develop high quality, cost effective planning and proposal BOEs/inputs.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve proposal estimates prepared by area personnel.
  • Maintain ISO and CMMI certification by assisting in developing department procedures and measures to ensure compliance to all appropriate SP's, FOI's and DI's.
  • Promote a team environment and facilitate intra and inter-group coordination.
  • Participate in technical and program reviews.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with management of area personnel which includes, but is not limited to, conducting performance appraisals, monitoring labor reporting, preparing status reports, and attending and conducting staff meetings.
  • Create a work environment in the area that is oriented to efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable department processes.
  • Address personnel issues as required in accordance with the GDLS Code of Ethics Handbook

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or equivalent technical discipline is required (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of military hardware product development experience required; other relevant experience will be considered.
  • Ability to effectively convey design options, solutions, issues and progress via formal presentations.
  • Ability to apply sound Engineering Principles and Practices to management of technical issues.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage and coordinate multiple projects and engineers to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Capable of leading a team of 15+ engineers with diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Capable of interacting in a team based environment, working with various organizations throughout GDLS to include other engineering disciplines, PD&S, Finance, Material Acquisition, Field Support, Logistics, and Project management.
  • Ability and willingness to travel when required to execute job functions.
  • Commitment to team-based development methods.
  • Knowledge of ISO and CMMI standards.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint).
  • This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible)
