Job Description

THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION WITH AN ONSITE WORK LOCATION IN TROY, MI

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for preparing, validating and analyzing detailed financial information; preparing monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries for one or more business units; reconciling general ledger account balances on a monthly basis; and performing functions related to fixed asset accounting.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify, balance, and reconcile data consistently, timely, and accurately to ensure that the accounting records are maintained appropriately, and within establish deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and easily retrievable records.
  • Manage capital asset process for a business unit.
  • Prepare journal entries for areas that are complex in nature, monitor and correct journal entry input.
  • Reconcile general ledger account balances for higher risk areas, as well as investigating significant or unusual variances.
  • Identify improvements to current processes.
  • Ensure compliance with controls over financial reporting.
  • Effectively multitask and manage multiple projects/assignments occurring at the same time.
  • Assume a proactive leadership role in the department related to those areas of involvement, including serving as the department's resource for assigned software applications, and effectively coordinates activities as assigned.
  • Perform other responsibilities or assignments as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience in accounting, finance or related field.
  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles including journal entry and account reconciliation preparation, financial statement preparation, internal controls, and external audits.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Knowledge of PeopleSoft helpful but not necessary.
