Job Description

Position Summary: The Community Center Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing programs for youth and adults which will benefit their emotional, physical and spiritual health. He/she will work to develop volunteer and employee leaders to work in all phases of the Community Center youth and adult oriented programs. He/she will work to build bridges between community needs and Salvation Army resources.

Responsibilities

  • Creatively plan, develop and implement programs in response to community needs. This includes structured recreation, leagues and tournaments, unstructured recreation, after school program, summer day camp and special interest groups.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Community Center.
  • Develop and maintain personal involvement with Community Center program participants with the ultimate goal of building relationships as to gain the right to share the Gospel.
  • Planning, leading and executing the Summer Day Camp each summer. This includes monitoring the budget and keeping necessary records of payments, etc.
  • Promote youth and adult ministry programs throughout the community.
  • Work with Corps Officers to develop and coordinate rental agreements for outside groups.
  • Assist the Corps Officers in conducting of the Christmas campaign. This may include but not limited to Special Dinners and other programs.
  • Work with Corps Officers, volunteers and other staff to help this Corps fulfill its mission. This may include assisting in other activities from time to time that do not fall under your specific responsibilities.
  • Assist casework with the Food Pantry, i.e., packing food for clients, maintaining clean environment, keeping Corps Officers aware of pantry stock.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or 480 hours of working in that field.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to program participants, parents, and staff.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. The ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer skill: To perform this job successfully, and individual should have knowledge of word processing software.
