Job Description

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a Compensation & Payroll Coordinator at our Superior Township, Michigan facility:

The Compensation/Benefit & Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for and support our compensation strategy and payroll functions across the various locations, such as Michigan, California, Georgia, Alabama, Massachusetts including but not limited to contingent processing timesheets, updating payroll records and answering employee questions about payments. You will help us maintain a competitive edge in the industry by analyzing our current total compensation packages and working with the HR team to enhance and optimize our compensation strategy. Ultimately, you'll ensure employees are compensated correctly and on time, in a way that is equitable and competitive. To ensure success, the Compensation & Payroll Coordinator should possess great problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a diverse environment with employees at all levels within the organization.

As our Compensation/Benefit & Payroll Coordinator, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the financial well-being of our organization and ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time. Essential Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Structure and define HATCI's compensation strategy.
  • Analyze current compensation strategy and provide recommendations for enhancement and improvement to maintain competitiveness in the market.
  • Ensure compensation policies are consistent and compliant.
  • Research and report on external benchmarking data to ensure compensation equity.
  • Maintain local and global relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align on compensation strategy.
  • Develop systems to process payroll account transactions (e.g. salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third-party payments)
  • Coordinate timekeeping and payroll systems.
  • Oversee processing of payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, raises) and system upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Supervise and coach payroll clerks and assistants.
  • Liaise with auditors and manage payroll tax audits.
  • Process other financial compensations or deductions (e.g. annual bonuses, severance pay, taxes, worker's compensation)
  • Handle benefit expenses, like insurance fees or paid leave.
  • Produce reports to upper management upon request.
  • Answer employee questions or complaints about salaries and payments.
  • Work with authorities (e.g. IRS) on audits or requests.
  • Work directly with Payroll System support to ensure all transactions are handled in timely manner.
  • Collaborate with all administrative staff to ensure all payroll records are accurately reflected.
  • Handle any off-cycle payroll transactions.
  • Process exempt & Non-exempt payroll information as monthly or Bi-weekly payroll.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, Business Administration, Human Resources or relevant fields.
  • Proven experience as a payroll coordinator or similar role
  • 7~10 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with payroll software/ HRIS (e.g. SAP, ADP, Kronos) and MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws governing compensation.
  • Knowledge of compensation and wage structure
  • Familiarity with human resource management software (SAP)
  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
  • Analytical research skills
  • Experience defining and implementing comprehensive compensation strategies.
  • Comfort with use and analysis of external benchmarking data for compensation comparison.
