About the Role:
General Dynamics Land Systems is seeking a Manager for our Future Systems Core Technology Development efforts reporting directly to the Director of Future Systems. This job requires an understanding of defense industry operations and emerging technology. As the engineering manager for Core Technology Development in Future Systems, communication and leadership are critical aspects of the job.

Communication:
  • Leads well developed briefings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to use relationship building, influence and persuasion to gain support for and change operational imperatives.
  • Taking into account diverse perspectives and current resources, works within situations to provide solutions for current and future challenges.

Leadership:
  • Accountable for project results and impact to the entire business function.
  • Ability to direct others and react to frequently changing environments.
  • Work will be assessed based on meeting objectives and timelines.

Responsibilities to Anticipate/Expect:

Function as a Technology Pioneer and Team Leader in the Future Systems Group:
  • Identify and lead the development of new technologies to help transform our business and the technology base of our platforms.
  • Help recruit, hire, and develop a small staff to help us explore, buy-down risk, and advocate for new-technologies inside the larger business. The technologies involved are expected to be deeply rooted in software, ai, automation and robotics.
  • Be responsible for the quality planning and project execution.
  • Conduct outreach, globally, to technology developers, partners, and especially academia.
  • Help create and maintain our multi-year product and capability roadmaps.
  • Pilot all new methodologies to streamline our work, and inform future ways of doing business
  • Support department manpower planning and resource allocation.
  • Foster a spirit of collaboration across the enterprise.
  • Represent Future Systems and GDLS to senior leadership and our global clients.
  • Coordinate and execute quality responses for proposals, special projects, or other key executive-level presentations.

Minimum Qualifications / What you must have
  • Minimum requirement for a Bachelors in Computer Science or engineering. Strong preference for advanced technical degrees, Masters and PhDs, in the fields of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Robotics.
  • Roughly 10+ years of experience, however, substantial experience with developing technology in a laboratory or university environment may substitute for industry experience.
  • A technologist mindset - with strong interest and enthusiasm for emerging capabilities, especially with ai, software, and automation/robotics.
  • A track record of leading successful technology development activities, including advocating on behalf of the technology to help move it forward.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to network, and help recruit, mentor, and grow the technical team.
  • A desire to lead with a spirit of creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience engaging with senior leaders and customers.
  • Demonstrated initiative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be a U.S. Person (i.e. a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)
  • Occasionally must lift and carry equipment weighing 30 lbs

Additional Information
This position requires eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
